When engineering becomes art

Machining excellence
I have worked in and around the engineering manufacturing sector for more years than I care to remember, on the shopfloor operating machines, in admin roles and latterly writing about and photographing it. The one constant over all that time is that the enginering community continues to amaze me with its ability to machine parts that years ago could only have been imagined. The constant development of machine tools, cutting tools manufacturing software and, of course, human interaction with all of these, ensures that new products can be developed that enhance all of our lives. Many of the parts I see being produced would not look out of place displayed in high end galleries, yet engineering remains a relatively unsung occupation. Time for that to change.
